Minority-owned businesses hoping to bounce back with support, pay it forward

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Radio personality and restaurant owner Sam Sylk wants to see more black-owned businesses supported, for the value they bring the community and the potential to pay it forward.

”It’s about the community. It’s about supporting one another. We have some wonderful black businesses,” Sylk said.

Restaurants obviously took a hit during the shut down and recovery, but minority-owned businesses are hoping to recover through a surge in support on the heels of the recent Black Lives Matter protests.

Homeless Cleveland mom and her two kids will receive a rent-free apartment for one year through an initiative created by The Real Black Friday organization

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Teranisha Taylor, 26, and her 3- and 10-year-old kids, will spend Christmas in a place that had become a bit unfamiliar to them. A home to call their own.

Taylor is the recipient of the “Home for the Holidays: The Victoria Edition” initiative. The program was created through The Real Black Friday organization and its founder, LaRese Purnell.

Cleveland business expert says now is the time for many employers, employees to hit the ‘reset button’

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The coronavirus has companies making tough decisions about their workforce. And, workers are trying to figure out how to survive without regular paychecks.

LaRese Purnell, a managing partner at CLE Consulting Firm, said it’s time for business owners and individuals to look at their budgets and “reset” for the future.

“The new table talk should be money. It should be about finances,” Purnell said.
